Bullies Beware

I really thought I would call it a night and prop up everything that hurts.  I fell the other day and on an old lady, there is a lot that hurts.  I do not bounce like I used to.  My body is more than willing, but my thoughts keep going round.  As a writer there are many things in life I see, hear and live that might inspire a fictional story.  More and more I hear of such tragic, painful, depressing, oppressing, and unfair instances of bullying.

This is not just a topic, this is a disease.  It is real.  It causes pain and damage.  It hurts all involved.  We may think of the victim of the bullying, but what about the bully?  Are they not a victim too to their own ignorance and cruel actions?  When a person goes out of their way to be cruel and demean another, it may make them feel superior, but are they better for it, or does it really reveal the deficiency in their own characters to be the kind of person who would do such a thing?  Does it show how deficient their own thought processes are to be unable to have compassion, understanding or just common decency?

What is disease?  Disease

A disease is an abnormal condition affecting the body of an organism. It is often construed to be a medical condition associated with specific symptoms and signs.   It may be caused by external factors, such as infectious disease, or it may be caused by internal dysfunctions, such as autoimmune diseases. In humans, "disease" is often used more broadly to refer to any condition that causes pain, dysfunction, distress, social problems, or death to the person afflicted, or similar problems for those in contact with the person. In this broader sense, it sometimes includes injuries, disabilities, disorders, syndromes, infections, isolated symptoms, deviant behaviors, and atypical variations of structure and function, while in other contexts and for other purposes these may be considered distinguishable categories. Diseases usually affect people not only physically, but also emotionally, as contracting and living with many diseases can alter one's perspective on life, and their personality.
Diseases can also be classified as communicable and non-communicable disease.
I typed in the search and this is what I found.  When we talk about an abnormal condition we could well see the bully in this light.  They are not the normal even if the are the loudest or often one who is doing all of the talking.  It is the way of the bully to assert their power or influence over others and in the process do detrimental things.  Are there specific symptoms and signs????  I think there are without a doubt.  A bully tries to gain control and in the process diminish those around them.  They may even act like a friend while slowly degrading and causing harm to those who trust or follow them.

Disease has symptoms and signs.  Does a person have to use cruel or derogatory remarks to another to elevate their own self worth?  Is it fun to ridicule or demean another?  What about how another person feels??? Is it a consideration at all?  Do you do things that hurt others just because you can?  You might be a bully.  Is it a disease?  Are you diseased and unable to control your actions?  Are you unable to control your desire to inflict harm to another?

Any condition that causes pain, dysfunction, distress, social problems, or death to the person afflicted, or similar problems for those in contact with the person. We may never know how many suicides are a result of bullies and their actions.  There may and often are many other factors involved, but who knows if the bully was the last straw or factor that made the difference to life and death….and for what?  One person could hurt another so much that……  If you have bullied another, are you proud of the hurt you inflicted?  Does it show you superior intellegence to be cruel and inflict harm to another?  Does it really show a lack of your own self worth if you have to try to hurt another to increase your own status?  Is it not the bully that is the defective or deficient person who needs to be cruel and hurt others to improve their own selfworth?

Diseases usually affect people not only physically, but also emotionally, as contracting and living with many diseases can alter one's perspective on life, and their personality.
Bullying can be contagious.  They tend to be loud and want to lead the crowd.  They tend to be ones that jump up and do not stop to consider consequences or results of their own actions or words.  They do not care.  The greater the affects, the greater their satisfaction.  They feed off of misery, and in that action they show their own miserable core.   That shows their deviant behaviors, and atypical variations of structure and function.

It is time we saw bully for what they really are.  It is time we take a look at peer pressure and realize the consequences it can have.

Any condition that causes pain, dysfunction, distress, social problems, or death to the person afflicted, or similar problems for those in contact with the person.  How can you not realize that an action such as a bully inflicts on others is anyting less than painful, causing dysfyunction distress and social problemns as they spew forth their messages.  What ever the consequences to this tactic are involveld I do not know  the legal ramifications but I think there should be something that holds contibuting factors to account.  If you are proud enough to bully you should be ready to defend your abuse or suffer consequences for your actions.

One  of the short stories is the collection of short stories I wrote called A Tale to Tell deals with peer pressure.  A person might do things they never would do to be accepted and later find out that acceptance was a sham.  It was a tactic of a bully to push another to do something offensive to gain acceptance….at what cost.  The Midnight Hour is about a supposedly haunted cememtary.  Who knows what lurks in the darkness of the Midnight Hour?

It only takes a moment to say something nice and pass a good thought on to others.  We may become angry but words do have power so mind what we say.  We have a chance to do something special each and every day we are alive or….we can just not care.  Either way please do not be a Bully.   Do not spread the disease of hurt and harm.  Take a good thought and pass it on and someday it will come back to you.

Sketches from the Spanish Mustang FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SEE THE WORLD THROUGH DIFFERENT EYES
Benjamin X. Wretlind releases Sketches from the Spanish Mustang

Sketches from the Spanish Mustang was going to be released on July 1st, but due to some quick action by Amazon and Barnes and Noble, the book is available TODAY! That's awesome news considering the fire in his neighborhood and threat of the need for relocation starting tomorrow so he can get his family away from the choking smoke and post-apocalyptic-looking town.  As we celebrate with him this wonderful news about the book I hope we keep all who are enduring and suffering from these fires in our hearts.

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - JUNE 27, 2012 - With the release of Castles: A Fictional Memoir of a Girl with Scissors, Colorado Springs author Benjamin X. Wretlind asked what madness really was. Now, with Sketches from the Spanish Mustang, Wretlind asks if we can learn to see with broken eyes.

In this literary exploration of the lives of seven people in the mining town of Cripple Creek, Colorado, a woman must come to grips with the failings that cost the lives of her husband and child. Bestselling author Michael K. Rose says: "Mr. Wretlind has penned a tale of such emotional and literary depth it will haunt the reader long after the last page is turned."

With a pencil, a sketchbook and a keen eye for the details of the soul, the woman's lines and smudges, curves and tone reveal the stories behind her subjects. Life emerges on the page — vengeance, salvation, love and death. The artist's subjects fight for survival, only to be saved in the sketches of a woman with a gift . . . and a curse.

International Book Award winner Gregory G. Allen calls the book a "unique journey that rips away the outer layers of people allowing us to stare into their souls where humanity is universal: no matter the genre of writing."

Sketches from the Spanish Mustang is available now at all major online retailers for $14.95.  It is also being presented in an electronic format (e.g. Kindle, nook) for $5.95.

Writers Outreach

At out last writer's meeting we had such a wonderful time and discussed many things.  It is wonderful seeing so many making so much become reality.  A simple idea for a story or project takes a lot of work, inspiration, dedication and perseverance to become a book.  The different individuals of this group in person and on line are amazing in all that they have done and are doing.

I am especially delighted when I hear the ideas and plans for the future.  That is something special.  We must live each day the best that we can and never forget how special it is, but there is excitement when we can plan and work to make those plans become reality.

Each individual of the group has projects in different stages of development and seeing the encouragement offered one to another inspires me even more.  This idea of people helping people is something real.

One thing planned for July 10th in Jonesboro, Ar. at 311 Church Street 'The Arts@311 is an event I call   'Writers Outreach'

Guest Speaker CD Mitchell will be coming to Jonesboro.  This will be an evening of fun, enlightenment, and entertainment free to all who attend.  Linda Nance NEA Writers is proud to present this special guest speaker as a Writer's Outreach program for the community with readings, discussions and a time to ask questions, meet and greet the author and others of the the group.  This should be an interesting evening of fun and entertainment offering a chance to learn and grow.

If you have an interest in writing, publishing or the pure pleasure of a good story this will be an evening to come and join the fun.  Hearing the program is only a part as you and others can ask questions and hear first hand the story of the stories you find in the books and writings you often read and enjoy.  You can hear how you too can make dreams come true.  Meet CD Mitchell in person and several other published authors who have promised to attend.

Guest Speaker CD Mitchell has an MFA with concentrations in creative nonfiction and fiction. He served as an editor for the award winning and nationally recognized literary journal, The Pinch, published by the University of Memphis MFA program.

He has seen the courtroom as a prosecutor, a defense attorney, a special judge, and as a defendant.

A professional boxing career ended with a record of 45-5 with 38 knockouts. Tommy Morrison, the former World Heavyweight Boxing Champion claimed one of his first Tough-man titles in fights CD promoted in Fayetteville Arkansas.

He has worked as a bridge man and track layer for the Union Pacific Railroad, owned his own construction company, competed in Memphis in May Preliminary BBQ competitions, owned his own BBQ stand, and worked on the locks and dams of the Arkansas River from Toad Suck to Ozark.

He has been a groom four times and a pallbearer four times, but has never been a best man, and that in itself is a story waiting to be written.

CD Mitchell has had several publications of both fiction and creative nonfiction in print and online journals that include Natural Bridge, River Teeth, The Southeast Review, Story South, Blood Lotus, The Evansville Review, The Appalachee Review, Big Muddy, North Dakota Quarterly, and others. His story, "The Execution" loosely based upon a true incident in Arkansas, has been selected for inclusion in a crime anthology forthcoming in the United Kingdom this fall. Another story, "Clovis" is part of a collaboration with Chicago photographer Jennifer Moore and will be included with the work of 5 other artists and writers in an anthology published by Flying House in August.

His website is cd mitchell.net and can best be seen using Mozilla Firefox.

CD is a man who has lived life, been there and done that with a gift to tell the tales and write stories to delight, entertain and even make you cry but always wanting more.

He has graciously agreed to come and speak sharing not only things he has written but answer questions and offers the opportunity to share knowledge and assistance to those working on their own projects, dream to write or have an interest to know more.  This promises to be an entertaining evening as well as informative and fun.

When you think of the idea of people helping people this is a beautiful example of someone doing something special to give to others and hopefully inspire them each in thier own projects or desires to create.  He is offering more than an evening of entertainment or a lecture or reading of works....he is offering the gift of sharing and reaching out to others.

For those who will be unable to attend in person I hope to be able to tell all about it and even have pictures.  Join me,even if it is with your best wishes and a kind word or encouragement to another.... passing a good thought along and helping to make dreams come true.

The Tangled Web reviewed by Linda Nance

The Tangled Web takes the reader on a journey.  As I read the Tangled Web, I could see and feel and hear the island.  This was not written by the uninformed.  Aspects of more than just the island are done in detail and accuracy.  It uses a realistic sense of scenes and people.  The writer found a way to create characters and places or scenes, that could by words on a page, allow me as a reader to enjoy intensity of the scenes and seas, islands, beauty, lush complexities and even the unforgiving nature there with so much more that lies just below the surface of the sea as well as the heart of man.

The characters involved are developed and written prompting the reader to get to know them and discover their many qualities and depths, as well as secretes so much more than the obvious.  It is not a simple story played out to quickly scan through and move on.  This is a novel of depth that allows you to know people instead of viewing characters.  You begin to feel the warm moist tropical air hearing the rhythmic ocean calling you to know and read more.

I have mentioned the island so much, perhaps because after reading The Tangled Web I would so love to see such beauty and a sincerity of some of it's people.  When the story skips around the globe in locations and scenes, it is realistic in vividly accurate details.  I can go to lands far and away and know people of many and varied characteristics as I hold this story in the palm of my hand.  You begin to know these people.  You see these places.  You are caught in the Tangled Web of it all and can not put it down or forget until you know......

You feel the heat of the tropics but also the realistic reactions of the people, life, drama, tension, passion, and more.

It may be a Tangled Web but with people who hope to find a way and make it better than before.  The warm moist heat of the tropics may fuel the imagination but the heat of passion will ignite as those looking for depth and meaning, and answers hope to part the tangled web and find truth revealed.  They can pray there will be a way to build and find understanding.

The Tangled Web carries the reader far and away with every page leaving the reader wanting more.  That brings me to think about what is to come.  I feel as if I have come to know this author. I feel with all of my heart and soul she is my friend.  She is a very real and heart felt person of not only depth of character but also talent and inspiration.  She has such a depth of character with in herself allowing her to see beyond the surface and be able to translate life's lessons into written text than not only allows you to see and know, but also feel the story.  I say feel because it is more than anticipation to view the next event in the story.  It is to feel the fear, frustration, dread, betrayal, secrets, confusion and more.  There is a passion to life, integrity, truth, people, friends and those we might love.  In a story of such depth how much more is there to discover?

Read the Tangled Web and decide for yourself.  It is more than just a story in a book.  It is a work of fiction that makes it come to life.
