A Story and A Cover

As I continue writing and looking for things I want to share in this book I also have been trying to find the right cover for it.  I intend to publish it as an e-book to start but want it to be special.  I decided to try again to use one of my paintings and see how it looks.

When I think of life it really is a journey we take.  There are times that the path is smooth and well traveled and others it seems steep and difficult…but if we do not give up there is so much more that awaits us.  I seem to love to paint paths that lead to…???....  I hope they will lead to where we need to go in life.  I hope there is love, hope, happiness, and wonderful new things that await us at the end.

I want to look for and find the beauty in life and find love and hope.  This book is not just the wonderful moments to show only the smiling, happy, marvelous and inspirational times…I am trying to make it real and share a piece of my heart, life, thoughts, feelings and so much of who and what I am.

This is the cover I am considering.  I have another I thought about too.  I would love to hear what one you like the best.  They are both water color paintings of mine.

Have a wonderful day.

  1. Hi Linda,
I like the one on the top because the colors make it look hopeful.

  2. Thank you. I am so excited. I tried changing the color of the author name on the bottom and think it works. The things I am writing about are not all easy things. There have been some difficult times and times and I have problems, but I want to be able to share the idea that we should never give up. I have so much to be thankful for and this book, I hope will be a way to take a good thought and pass it one by sharing things I had never been able in some instances to put into words.

  3. I think the name in the lighter color works...is that the one?

  4. I'm going to need to disagree - sorry. I find the hope and determination is more evident to me in the white font and dark foreboding background.

That being said, I've been in a continuous discussion about font colouring on blogs and I think this follows the same rule. The rule being that most people actually prefer less background picture and darker font (most black).

So the first is beautiful as well but just thought I'd shed some light on the second one.

  5. IT IS REALLY SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT. I plan to continue writing both fiction and what ever I feel strongly about. The idea of using both on different books is one that also comes to mind. I do love both of them and they both have such different feelings when uyou actually look at the whole painting. Who knows what else I might come up with. I am learning and appreciate all of the help. I look at the font in Journey Home and Life Goes On and know I really would prefer black if it would stand out from the trees.

  6. I like the one with the white text. It looks more mysterious.

  7. I like the second, with the brighter yellow text. But they're all good.

  8. Thank you all. I decided to use the brighter sky with what the book is about. It is something I hope will inspire hope and knowing there are good things ahead....we can not give up...not today and the path shows the journey ahead.

I do still love the second painting. I think I will try to write more here tomorrow and show the whole paintings. I agree that it helps to create a feeling of mystery and suspense so I know I will use it...I will just have to have the right story to go with it. I did that one on a piece of poster board I got at the local store for 25 cents. I have had it for a long time and wish I could find another old time eye liner brush. That was what I used to make the tree limbs.
