All The Books Around The World.. ..A Journey In Writing...Part Three

WHAT IS DOWN THE PATH?

As I begin this third part of the blog about the books that I now have, I find it difficult to begin. If I were to tell you what the books were about, it would be easy but there is so much more to these books than the story inside. These two books are a part of my life and that of my grandson. One is titled Down The Path and it is not my story but his own story, that I worked with him to make it become a real book. The other is An Adventure In Writing. It has been an adventure in writing but more than just the book we wrote together. It has been an adventure through the years before we ever evolved to this point in life.

I think before I begin I will share a bit about us for those who have not read my book I Will Not Give up....Not Today....Life Is A Journey. I had often been asked questions such as how long did it take you to write your first book, do you have a special way of writing such as a designated number of words or pages a day or time of day, where do you get your ideas, and many more questions that are not easy for me to answer. That book tells a lot of not only me but why I write as I do and how life can get in the way.

I had even started a writers group here locally to try to help others with their projects. I did not focus as much in sharing what we have done as finding ways to help one another with what we were doing. So many, seem to have invested so much money that they or their families really could not afford and found the results not what they expected or even with their books so high priced no one could afford them, including themselves. There are so many things involved in trying to do for yourself, what professionals normally do with whole staffs of people who really know what they are doing. Everywhere we turn there are so many 'experts' who tell you how it is. It seems everywhere you look they are all best sellers and doubt, despair and eventually all of the business side of writing or self publishing becomes overwhelming. So many give up. I am an expert at nothing. I am a little old lady that loves to write, wishes all that I do could be more perfect, can not afford the professional help I so desperately need, but feel that my stories and what I have to say is worth the effort and opportunity to not give up and make a dream something real.

I wanted this, what I call a journey, to share an idea with others to never give up. Never give up on our dreams and passions but understand that what ever we do that is worth doing, is worth the work and effort it takes to make it a reality. We also have to have a passion to persevere. We have to have the determination to overcome the obstacles life often puts in our way. Everyone has a story, good times and bad, things they have to deal with or overcome. Those are the times we need to believe and be willing to not give up.

By now you can tell I am an old lady that does ramble on, since I am writing this part of my blog to tell you about the two newest books. That and all of the medications I am having to take right now, seem to affect me in many ways, good and bad. It is time to tell you about the books and the author Zander Figueroa.

By Zander Figueroa and Linda Nance

When you look it up on Amazon or elsewhere you will see it as Linda Nance and Zander Figueroa. There are legal issues in publishing and we could not have a book with the author as only an 8 year old child. The story is really his, but I have worked with him all the way to turn his idea and story into a book... A real book that he can hold in his little hands.

I had an idea. Many people have contacted me with questions and asking for help with their writing projects in the authors group and online. When my health got so bad I could hardly get out, let alone continue a writers group in person. I did not want to give up on it. I receive so much from them as I try to give and continued it online and on the phone sharing information and encouragement. I called it a mentor program. Zander's idea for Down The Path followed that idea of mentoring one another. For me it was kind of exciting to see him as he learned and worked to make something real of his idea.

If an 8 year old child could do this, and it really be him working, instead of his idea and me using it to write a book..... I wanted to share that too. That is the next book I will tell you about.... An Adventure In Writing.

How did Down The Path become a book? Here I go trying to share what was so special between grandson and grandmother. He calls me Mamaw. He started calling me that when he was learning to talk. I like it and to him I am his Mamaw.

When Zander was barely able to hold a color in his little hand, we would make coloring pictures. I would do drawings and he would scribble across, excited as we talked about what ever the picture was that he was coloring. As we did that, he not only was entertained but he was learning. He learned colors and numbers and many things. Some day I want to publish the Easter Book I did originally as coloring pages but later did the pages that would be perfect for a book about an Easter Bunny and all of the eggs. It is a wonderful way to learn colors and counting. They can also use it to develop their own imaginations and stories as you ask them about what they are doing. Where did the path go, how many colors were the eggs or what ever comes to mind involving them and allowing them to use their own thoughts and imaginations to make it more. “What else do you think they found down the path is a good question to get them going.

I had published my own book. I told him he could too, if he was willing to work hard enough and learn so that he could one day have his own book. We made hundreds of 'books' if not more, by coloring pages and thinking of the stories that go with them and then I would staple them together. He was writing and making books. He was such a little guy working with his Mamaw.   One day he looked up with a sad expression on his face after we had worked making his pictures with the story for his book, we stapled together. I asked him what the problem was.

He looked so sad. “I love to do these with you, Mamaw. They are not real books though.”

I asked him why he thought they were not real books. He came up with the stories and even colored the pictures. I may have been the one to draw them but it was he who decided what the pictures were to be with the stories.

I almost laughed but knew I could not as he answered. “It is never a real book until you have your picture on the back.” I think back to that time and it makes me smile. Having a real book is so much more than having your picture on the back but at that time, for a young child it was what made it real for him.

I tried using my copier to make a last page for the stories he was doing with his picture on it before I stapled then together but he told me sadly, “It is just not the same thing, Mamaw.”

In many ways he was more right than I realized at the time. To make it a real book, is not what is on the cover, but what is in the pages within. It is more than just a story in a book, but working to make it the best that it can be. I tried to share what we were doing and hope it helps other young and old in writing.

Many years ago I wrote a poem about a haunted pumpkin field. I have told about that in the first part of this 3 part blog. The Pumpkin Field has entertained family, friends, neighbors and even been used in a State Park during their Halloween program.

I realized the only thing that kept it a poem instead of a children's story, were the illustrations. The illustrations may be simple pictures but you would not believe the heart that I put into each one. Little Zander grew up with that book and story. (It also has my picture on the back)

I have said many times that that book was written to inspire children to share thoughts, feelings and learn. I took such delight with my little grandson I did as his mother before him with the story. As the years passed there were different questions and thoughts shared but the little book remained a part of his interest and life. We talked about fears and how to conquer them such as fear of the dark. We also talked about the witch. She hurts no one and look scary and different. People assume she is a witch. Maybe she is and then maybe she is just different. She is old, ugly and dresses oddly. If someone is different, it is not always a reason to hate of fear them but so many people react in that way. In that story, the character follows a path into a pumpkin field and then the story begins.

I may at times ramble on and get off track but this time there is a reason for me sharing all of this. Down that path in the pumpkin field sparked something in this little boy's imagination. He told me, “That was not the end of the story.” He said it with such passion that he had my curiosity up.

Tell me more. What do you think happened?”

He was so excited as he told me, “Things are not always as they seem. The pumpkins seem so nice, but there is one that is not nice at all. There is one that in nothing but trouble.”

I remind him that in the end of the story it says maybe it was only a dream.

He got all excited and told me, “It was not a dream. There is more to this story. There is a lot more.”

At that time he had one idea but time passes. He still has the idea for what we had talked about but as he got a little older and his reading ability increased so did his desire to write in the same way. He explained that we could still do a picture book for the little kids but he had so many more ideas we needed to do a different story. There is still a path and a child that goes down that path to an adventure. He already had the idea for Beyond The Path with the origional story.

This story of Down The Path is written for children to read but I am amazed and inspired to think that adults can also find meaning and interest in the story. There are so many little aspects he found a way to incorporate that relate to children and adults.

We live in a very rural area with vast areas of thickly wooded areas behind our house. It would be easy for anyone to get lost in the woods. We often see wildlife of many kinds. For many years I had a creature that would visit me that I thought of a friendly that was a bear. It is no place to get lost or for a child to adventure alone. He comes here each day after school until his mother gets off work. He has been raised understanding you do not go into the woods alone. In reality he is rarely outside playing alone but we have taught him this since he was a wee one.

In his story the children did not listen to their parents. The did not think they were doing wrong, as they followed their little dog down a path into the woods. The did not intend to get lost. They were just having fun.....but.....they went down the path. Once they got deeper into the woods they were lost and frightened and alone. They did not know how to get home. They did not know what to do.

I do not want to spoil the story for you. It is written so that a child could read it, but also so an adult could use it to share many things. I have been pleasantly amazed with the complexity of his story line and the depth he found for his characters. He had reasons for every part of his story. We worked very hard developing and talking about making the story feel real.   Knowing that he and his 'Papaw' grandfather have always talked about nature, animals and many things like and adventure, gives an insight into how he wrote what he did. We had a pet squirrel that Albert (Grandpa....Papaw) had rescued for a long time.Little Zander can look at the foot print or track of a deer passing in the woods and tell if it is a buck or a doe.

This is a tale for young and old alike, sharing the story of two young children and the discoveries they make down the path they take. In the end, I do hope I am not spoiling the story, but can not resist explaining some things. I asked him, “Was it an angel, a ghost, or just their imagination?”
He did not hesitate saying what he believed. He said, If we say a prayer to God, he will always hear us but not always answer like we think. Sometimes we just have to believe. Sometimes we have to stand up to mean people who want to hurt our feelings too.”
He had said things better in that moment and with his own little story than I ever could have done alone. He saw things through the eyes of a child about issues much bigger. He knows he should listen to his parents and grandparents but sometimes we all make the mistake of thinking it will not hurt....just this one time.....
The faith of a child and the ability to share it, makes me smile.  We may each have different beliefs but to see this pure expression from one so young, is an inspiration to me, even if he was not my grandson.

Having the idea and the story was just the beginning. I explained that he knew the story and he had an idea, but to make it into a book would take a lot more than what we had. He would have to learn new things and how to use them. He would have to find a way to make the characters real and the story come to life.
To do all of that we worked. We worked for a long time learning and writing and developing it to be more than it started. I decided to write also about that. I included him as a coauthor, because it was about him and our journey and adventure in him making real books with his picture on the back too.  That book is called An Adventure In Writing.

I had said that this would be a 3 part blog but I am really feeling distress and it is nearly time I can do no more. I think it will be a 4 part blog. I want to share the first part of his story and let you decide for yourselves if he really has developed the characters, story, and if you would like to read more sharing this adventure of a little boy who loves to share his stories........

                                              DOWN THE PATH

CHAPTER 1
A New Adventure

Cooper just had a birthday and turned ten years old. He had a friend that was a girl named Jenny. Jenny was only seven years old but they had fun playing together and loved to play with Cooper's dog.
His dog was named Floppy because he had big floppy ears. Floppy loves to go with them on adventures.
The children loved to play in the yard and could go for short walks from Cooper's house to Jenny's house. They were not allowed to go far and were never allowed to go into the woods near where they lived.
Their mom's and dad's were afraid they might get lost or something bad could happen to them. They wanted them to always be safe.
They were playing in yard with Floppy when began to bark and ran into the woods behind Cooper's house.
“I think he wants us to go with him or follow him. I know we are not supposed to go in the woods, but we will only go a little way. We have to see where he is going and what he is doing. Do you want to go?” Cooper asked Jenny with a big smile. Copper was excited and thought it would be fun.
Jenny looked at Floppy jumping up and down at the edge of the woods as he wagged his tail. She smiled as she answered, “Let's go.
We will not be gone long or go far.” Jenny had no sooner finished answering when Floppy ran back to the children wagging his tail and barking lively. Before she could say more Floppy ran back to the woods and down the path into the woods.
Both Cooper and Jenny got excited and ran to follow. They were in such a hurry they did not notice a wooden sign beside a big tree near the path they were on. The sign was old and part of it was broken. The letters on
the sign were faded. The letters on the sign were a warning. The sign said, “DANGER.” The part of the sign that said what the danger was had broken off years before. Who knows what danger lies ahead, but danger was waiting.
Chasing after the dog was fun but the children ran farther than they had planned down the path. Some places in the path would have more than one way that they could go. The could go to the right or they could go to the left. Some places had brush that had grown up and the path
was hard to see at all. They were having so much fun they did not pay attention to what way they were going or what way they had come.
Floppy was having fun too. He had chased a pretty butterfly down the path. He had chased leaves that the breeze had blown down the path. He really had fun when he found a little squirrel.
He did not want to hurt the little squirrel. He wanted to play. The squirrel was very fast. It ran across and up a tree. The squirrel dashed to a big branch running out to the very tip of the tree limb. The little squirrel looked like a fuzzy little toy with bright eyes. It had a big fluffy tail that twitched back and forth as it peered down from the branch at the children and barking dog. It had paused at the very tip of the long branch looking at them for only a moment, as Floppy pranced and barked with his excitement.
Jenny giggled as she watched both the dog and the little squirrel. “I think I will call that little squirrel, Fuzzy Tail.” As soon as she spoke, they little creature made a might leap into the air landing on the very tip of a long branch in the tree next to where it had been.
The adventure began as little Fuzzy Tail jumped lively from branch to branch and tree to tree.

Floppy chased the squirrel and the children chased the dog laughing and having fun. The little squirrel they called Fuzzy Tail, finally got high enough and far enough away that Floppy lost interest.
Floppy sat down to take a break from the chase with the two children joining him. Jenny gently petted him and rubbed his ears. She loved to rub him on the ears because they were velvety soft. He loved to have her attention and did loved if she rubbed his ears, tummy or back. Cooper sat on one side and Jenny sat on the other enjoying their adventure.
The shadows of the trees seemed to be getting longer. As Cooper looked off into the woods, he noticed it seemed darker than before. Jenny noticed the pretty colors in the sky that she often saw at supper time as the sun would set before it got dark for the night.

CHAPTER 2
Story Break and a Little Fun

I will tell more of the story but before I do we could have a little fun.

How far from home had they come? Could they find their way back home? What were all of the turns in the path they had taken that brought them to where they were? How would they find their way back home? How much longer would it be before it got dark?

How dark was it way back in the woods?
I hope you will join me with Cooper, Jenny, and Floppy on their great adventure down the path in the woods but there is one problem.

I want to wait before I tell you the rest of the story. What if this is as far as I got when I was writing? If you think about it and can imagine what they must have been thinking and feeling, there are so many ways the story could go. If you want to have a little fun... try to make up your own story from here and see what you come up with for an ending. Writing is fun.
Do they ever see Fuzzy Tail again? How long does it take for them to find their way home? Will they have to be rescued? What else do they find in the woods? When it is over will they remember to listen and do as their mothers and fathers tell them?

Do they find out what the danger is the sign warned them about when they first started down the path?

So many questions and so many possible answers before they find their way back home and the end of their great adventure DOWN THE PATH.

I hope you have fun if you decide to write your own ending but it is time for me to continue with this story and go back DOWN THE PATH on the adventure of Cooper, Jenny and Floppy.

CHAPTER 3
Lost and Alone?

Floppy looked up at Jenny wagging his tale. She paused petting the little dog frowning as she looked at the beautiful colors of the setting sun. “Cooper, It is getting late. I think we should get back home. It will not be long before it gets dark.. We are probably already in trouble if mom and dad noticed we are not still in the yard playing.”
Cooper had not noticed the setting sun but quickly got to his feet stretching from where he had been comfortably resting. “Wow, I did not realize how late it is getting.” He looked into the thick woods first one direction and then another as a frown creased his brow.
You do know how to get back, don't you?” Jenny was beginning to worry as she saw him looking first one direction and then another.
Sure I do. I think we need to go back down this path here.” He pointed and began walking. Floppy followed wagging his tale.
The little path soon became almost impassable and they knew with out a doubt that was not the way home. Jenny felt an urge for tears thinking they might actually be lost. “This is not the way home. I have no idea which direction home even is. We made so many turns this way and that I don't know how we will ever find our way home and it will be dark soon.”
Cooper stood close to Jenny feeling the same fear gazing at the setting sun. “It will be alright. I know we will find the right path. We can go back to where we started and just follow the other way.” He did not feel the confidence he was trying to share with Jenny as they quickly tried to retrace their way back. Floppy had had a fun day and was tired enough he had stopped looking for adventures and things to follow as he happily trotted between the two children.
Jenny could not longer contain her anxiety as she looked at the long shadows the trees cast and the darkness that lay beyond in the woods that surrounded them. “What are we going to do? We should have listened to our mom and dads. Nobody even knows we are here. We don't even know where we are. I will be dark soon.”
Tears welled up in her eyes. Cooper felt responsible. It had been his idea to have an adventure. “We will be alright. We may be in trouble when we get home but we will get home. We just have to stay calm and get going. We need to go this way here.” He pointed to a narrow path leading into the woods and hoped it was the path that would lead them home.
Every little opening in the brush looked like a path to the children and they hoped it would lead them home as the went this way and that, working farther and farther into the dense forest. The two children and little dog stood quietly thinking their own thoughts and feeling their own fears.
Floppy felt no fears. He was just tired from a full day chasing butterflies and Fluffy the squirrel.
Standing still they heard foot steps beyond in the forest. Fear shown in their eyes as they dared not utter a sound.
Floppy had no fear and felt a surge of energy for the chase after the unknown footsteps. He bounded into the thick brush as a large dear dashed away from the little dog and the chase was on. Cooper ran after Floppy calling for him to stop but the little dog was quickly out of sight.
It was a relief to know that the footstep sounds were that of the deer and not some terrible monster but the relief was short lived. Cooper could feel tears burn his eyes as he was the shadows growing darker and his hopes dimming. “I don't know what to do. I thought we could find our way home but have no idea which way to go.”
When he saw the tears slowly running down little Jenny's face and the tremor of her shoulders he quickly put his arms around her. “Even if we yell as loud as we can I don't think anyone would hear us but last Sunday in Sunday School, our teacher told us when ever we say a prayer and talk to God he always listens. He could hear us. He could help us get home.” Cooper watched as Jenny dried her tears.
Do you really think God will listen and help us?” She reached out and held his hand in hers.
He smiled and hope she felt encouraged as the fear he felt seemed to dim all hope he really felt. “I can not see how it would hurt. Do you want to say it or me?”
She tightened her grip on his hand. “You say it. I don't know what to say other than I want to go home. It is getting dark now and I am so afraid.”
He smiled. “Our teacher said he always listens and when he answers it may not be as we expect but he never forsakes us. I'll do the best prayer that I can.”
They held hands and closed their eyes as he began. “Dear God, I know we should have listened to our moms and dads and we are very sorry but we need your help. We need your help real bad. We are lost, God. We are lost and don't know how to get home. Please God, help us find our way home. I promise we will never go into the woods again unless Mom and Dad are with us. One more thing, could you please bring Floppy back. We love him and he needs to go home with us too.”
As he finished his prayer they heard a sound that put a chill in their hearts. A long drawn out howl of a wolf pierced the stillness of the forest. The children uttered not a sound as their fearful gazed locked one to the other. Cooper wanted to call out to Floppy but was afraid to make a sound.
In a whispered voice Cooper spoke in urgent tones. “Dear God, please help us. We need to get home. Help us, please. Amen.”
As he finished his prayer they again heard the chilling sound of the wolf but it was closer. It was so close both children crouched between the closely growing trees near where they were standing. The three trees grew so close that the base of the trunks nearly touched with the children cowering in closely between them.

CHAPTER 4
An Answer to Their Prayers or More Danger

Jenny turned her face to Cooper ducking her head and burying her face against his shoulder. He wrapped his arms around her with his head on hers and tears running down his own face. The children trembled in fear as they heard footsteps coming closer and closer in the brush. The shadows were so dark they could hardly see beyond where they sat and were afraid to look.
Hearing the steps ever so close they sat with their eyes tightly closed waiting for what ever was coming. Jenny's shoulders shook with silent sobs.
The footsteps stopped. They could tell by the sound that whatever it was that had been steadily walking was probably stand right in front of them.
Cooper slowly lifted his head and opened his eyes to bravely see what was there in the woods with them. His breath came out in a gasp.
Standing just a few feet before the children was a large wolf like creature with bright intense blue eyes. The animal did not move an inch. It stood perfectly still gazing at the children. It had massive and powerful shoulders.
Jenny inched her face up to see what was there with them. She could not contain the cry of fear that escaped her.
The animal stood motionless staring at the two terrified children until it turned toward the sound of more footsteps approaching.
The children pressed themselves back as far as they could against the trees but had nowhere to run and no way to hide. The turned their faces trying to hide and clutched one another tighter in terror of the fearsome creature standing right before them.
As they waited to be torn to pieces by the wolf-like creature before them and what ever else had joined it there was no sounds. Slowly they turned their faces to see if it was still there and were surprised and afraid as they viewed a strange old woman beside the creature.
She wore old and torn cloths with a hood on the dark jacket that shadowed her face. She held a crooked stick as if it were a cane in her hand. She stood a motionless as the animal at her side.
Slowly she raised her hand lowering the hood, revealing bright shining blue eyes that resembled the wolf-dog. The children were too frightened to make a sound as she slowly squatted down beside the animal raising her hand and gently stroked it's fur.
Her voice was soft as she spoke. “What are your names?”
At first neither of the children could speak. It was as if their fear had left them paralyzed. They had no place to run or hide and the woman and animal were right in front of them. Finally Cooper tried to clear his voice and answer. “I am Cooper and this is Jenny. Our dog was with us too but he ran away chasing a deer.” He wanted to ask who she was and if the creature with her was going to eat him but could manage no more words in his state of fear.
Why are you here?” She did not smile as she spoke but did not appear angry either.
We were just having fun and wanted to go for a walk in the woods. We got lost and don't know how to get home.” Cooper was afraid but this old woman was their only hope for help. He had said prayers for God to help them but all they could see was a dog or wolf that could kill them without any effort and an old and strange woman with a crooked stick.
Did you see the sign at the edge of the woods that warned of danger?”
It was Jenny that found the courage to answer the woman but her eyes did not leave the intense blue gaze of the animal. “We saw it said danger but could not read what the danger was. We thought if we saw danger we would go back but it was beautiful and we were having so much fun we went too far and got lost. Do you know what the danger is?”
Several moments passed before the old woman answered. As she did a smile slowly spread on her face. “There are many dangers in this world. There are many dangers in these woods. Have your parents never warned you about going far away and dangers?”
Cooper hung his head knowing they were not allowed to go into the woods and had disobeyed what their parents had told them. “Yes ma’am. Our mom and dads told us not to go into the woods and only play in the yard but when our dog ran down the path we followed. Now we are so lost and it is almost dark. We don't know what to do. We just want to go home. Can you help us?”
A mist began to roll in as the chill of the night approached. The woman slowly stood beside the animal they now assumed was her pet. “What did you do when you knew you were lost and could not find your way home? Did you do something to find help?”
We said a prayer to God but I don't think he heard us or maybe he is mad at us too for not listening to our parents. He did not answer and we don't know what to do.” Tears again filled Cooper's eyes.
In her soft voice that was barely above a whisper she answered. “How do you know he did not hear you? Maybe his answers are not always as we expect. Maybe he knows what is best for us and answers in his own way.”
It was Jenny that found the courage to respond to her questions “If he heard us and was going to help, then why are we still lost? It is almost dark and getting cold.”
As she was speaking there was a crashing sound in the brush behind where they were sitting. Their heart raced in terror wondering what creature was coming next. To their surprise Floppy bounded through chasing a little squirrel. It may have been the same one they called Fuzzy Tail or another that looked just like it. The little squirrel raced up the base of the tree they cowered against with the little dog wagging his tail looking up into the branches overhead.
Cooper looked back to the old woman and big animal to explain that was their dog and hoped the wolf like creature would not decide to harm their little dog.
To his surprise and Jenny's there was no one there. They had not heard a sound. The shadows were so intense it was almost totally dark. A cold chill made them shiver. Jenny reached out and clutched the little dog to her and cried. “We will never find our way home. Why did she leave us? What are we going to do?

I will be back soon. Thank you for taking the time to share this adventure in writing and in our lives. I hope you each and everyone have a wonderful day.

Telling Tales Through The Years

We had such a wonderful time last night.  We shared the evening filled with spooky tales, stories and moments presented by numerous people.

There is a place in Jonesboro, Ar that is so outstanding in what they do.  They offer a place and times for people to gather and enjoy the arts in many forms.  We have gone and listened to music you wish would never end, as the evening is amazing for all.  The entertainers do more than play their music, they join with such passion everyone becomes a part of it all.  There are special events of so many different kinds that allow everyone to view, hear and become a part of it as artists show their creations, writers share their words and works, and musicians play a variety of music to delight and entertain.

TheArts@311 is a musicians/artists collective. It is a meeting place for artists and those who appreciate and want to support the arts locally. A warm comfortable and friendly place for friends, family and neighbors to join in the fun.  It is a place to meet and make new friends that are having a good time at 311 South Church Street, Jonesboro.  Jonesboro and Northeast Arkansas have an incredible amount of talent. Music, fine arts, visual arts, and writing, that is shared in a friendly atmosphere. TheArts@311 hosts these local professional and semi-professional artists for performances and exhibitions. There is a stage with equipment for music performance and the space is perfect for exhibitions of visual and fine arts. The stage can be cleared for theater and dance performances. The goal is to promote the artist,  That is what they do and what they did last night and we were there.

They had such a fantastic collection of individuals reading and telling stories and tales... truth or fiction?????  Why knows with tales told in the dark of night with a chill in the air?  I know it was so much fun for all.  Those who spoke, captured and enthralled all as they told their tales with passion and vividly presented stories with the audience hanging on every word.  You did not want to miss a moment.

There was one.... I can not say how well it was presented, but it was done by the author of a fictional short story she wrote and always enjoys telling..... me.  I had such fun but was nervous.  There is a difference in speaking to a group of friends or family and going up on the stage....lights are magically creating a scene and the microphone is ready.  They had the lights.  It was decorated with unique style, special effects bringing you all into a world of the unknown with tales to be told.  It was so perfect and when they said my name and introduced me, for a moment my heart skipped a beat.  It was time.  All eyes were watching and the room was silent.... the moment had arrived.

I chose a short story from one of my books that I especially enjoy.  When I started my back felt rigid with the tension and I hoped I could find courage to tell the story with the passion I had written in the words and not just read it.  I wanted to carry those who heard it to the time and place and let them share the adventure.  In moments I felt the tension ease as the story began to flow and I filled with the excitement of the moment.

I have shared many stories this time of the year to many groups of people.  One of those I especially enjoy, is reading the story of the Children's book The Pumpkin Field.  Last year I was dressed as a witch and had fun each and every time.

I read to the school children and received the greatest compliment I think an author can get for a children's book.  As I read the story, page after page, the children sat in utter silence listening to every word.  They did not fidget or whisper.  They watched and listened as the witch told the tale.  What bigger compliment could a person have than to share their words and have them received like that.

I have read in groups at parties and loved the excitement and comments the little story inspires as we talk for hours about what their thoughts, fears, ideas and stories of their own.  Reading at the Libraries is always a fun time.

I have read for my grandson's class.  It felt wonderful to see him smiling as he told them "That's my Mamaw.  Seeing the children smile, laugh and ignite with excitement at the thought that they too can write stories and learn to do many things.  I have told them that grades are important but learning is a gift that lasts a lifetime.

Last night I was so nervous but having such a good time with good people. Last night I was able to tell a tale and share one of my stories another time for another year.  I listened to others who amazed and entertained me and all of the others with not only the fascinating stories but vivid presentations.  The atmosphere was perfect in the event presented by Rev-Rick Bowen.  I wish I had been able to get pictures but we were having such a good time we got caught up in the moment having such fun.

I would love to see this painting I did enlarged as a wall size print.  I think it would make a wonderful Murial or background for a Halloween scene.  I used it on the cover of the book of short stories.

I hope you all have fun tonight and stay safe.  I hope the children have safe and happy times making memories of their childhood to last a lifetime.

Reaching Out... One of more to come

I have thought about this in a dozen different ways.  Reaching out.  When I first published Life Goes On, I desperately wanted to find a way to reach out.  I did want to reach out about my books and the things that I write, but it was, and is so much more than that.  I wanted to be able to reach out and feel alive.  I wanted to find a way, that as I sit here alone, I am not alone.  I know that the good Lord is always with me and will be, from here to the next life, but I hope that walk can wait a while longer.

I wanted to be able to reach out even when I could not get out.  When I could hardly get up I would not be alone.  I did not want to cry out and hear only the echo of my voice knowing it died in silence with no one to hear the thoughts, hopes, dreams and things I wanted to share.

Internet... computers... modern technology... are things of wonder to me.  There are times it does not take a lot to impress me but I am trying to learn so many new things.  You have to understand that I remember back to when there were party lines and our telephones were mounted on the wall.  You dialed....dittttttt..dittttt...dittttt..dittttttttt...as it went round and round with each number.  After all of that, you realize you dialed one number wrong and you can start over.  Dial ... ditttttttttttttt....dial another number...ditttttttttttt....and another.  Now cell phones are everywhere.  Beep beep beep and send.

Science is amazing.  Technology is amazing and for an old gal like me it is all a lot to learn..... but... it is like a doorway that opens to the whole world.  That is an amazing thought.  The world.  Good, bad, and what ever.... it is all out there.

I hear and read terrible stories about things that happen connected to the internet.  There are stalkers, hackers, thieves, cons and who know what all lurks in the space they call cyber space.  Did I let it in?  Did I open a portal to the unknown with all of the evil and malicious individules out there to come and get me.  I probably did.

It did more than that though.  It opened a door to the world and all of the people there.  Years ago I got a computer and learned how to use it to write my books.  I got online and met some people but not many and was in a terrible head on collision.  My hands and arms were crushed along with many other injuries.  I was no longer on line.

I had learned some things such as why we have to click on start to stop the computer.  Eventually I was able to resume writing.  I had the novel Journey Home written and wanted it to be more than I had the ability to make it.  I wanted it to be the best that I could make it, so I enrolled and took classes here at ASU.  They were wonderful.  I wrote about that in the book I Will Not Give Up... Not Today...Life Is A Journey.  I went back and rewrote the entire book.

I remember the first time I went to the library there at the college.  It was huge.  It was bigger than any I had ever seen.  I was so impressed and amazed.  I looked and looked but could not find the card files.  You younger people may not have any idea what I am talking about but those who do, might see some humor in all of this.  I had really lived so isolated from the world that I looked for the card files to find books.

When I could find none, and they should have been easy to find....usually a whole wall full of little drawers filled with cards for each of the books, I asked the young librarian.  I think she was younger than my youngest child.  She stood mutely looking at me with one of those looks that tell you she would rather be doing something else and asked, "what is a card file."  She stood looking at me with a condescending look of one who was not sure if I was crazy or just senile.

I was excited about my new class but had so many things I needed to look up.  "If you want to look up a book you go to the card file.  Every library I have ever been in has a whole wall full of drawers with little cards that tell you where to find each book.....a card file....to find books." My back hurt, my foot hurt and I leaned on the counter waiting to find out where the card file was to look up books.

Her expression did not change as she asked, "Look up books?"  She then silently pointed toward a computer on a near by table.

"I need the card file to find the books I want."

Rolling her eyes she responded.  "If you want a book... if you want to find a book... that is where you look it up.  I do not know about any card file.  I have never heard of such a thing.  I don't know what libraries you have been in...but there is how you find a book."

It was a new world and I had so much to learn.  I was taking an advanced class and had not been to school for many years.  I have to say that it was wonderful.  I learned how to find a book but learned so much more.

I learned how to think in a different way and how to improve what I was wanting to do in my writing.  I learned every day and in many ways.

I was not able to walk all the way to the class so I would park and then walk to a bench that was located near the door.  I would rest for awhile and then continue to the class.  While I sat there it was so peaceful with the beautiful layout of the college.  There was even a squirrel that often came to visit and was unafraid of people.

Dozens of students would pass during the class change as I rested there.  Many would smile or utter a friendly greeting.  I did notice that eight out of ten had a cell phone in their hand either talking or texting.  What was so funny to me is that more than once I would overhear a person talking on the phone to someone not far behind or in front of them.  I never could understand why they would rather talk on the phone than walk together or visit.

They were reaching out in ways that I had no idea or experience.  I did not have and had never even used a cell phone.  I would still rather sit and visit a spell.

The library used computers to allow a student to reach out and find any book they want with the click of the mouse, if they knew how to use item and they all seemed to know how.  I learned.

I learned that and so much more.  I knew about typewriters but there were printers.  Spell check was a special treat.  I became a regular in the computer lab.  The people who worked there were so patient and sweet.  They helped and showed me spectacular things....computers.  It was a new world.  I used to go to the book shelf and look through several volumes of encyclopedias to look up something at home and there you could just type and click.

You could reach out and learn so many things but only if you learned how to use the computer.

Trying to reach out and learning so many new things.... it was a new world.  It was a world that the others in the class did not understand.  They all had at least one college degree and were working on advanced studies.  Most were on the deans list and had the confidence that went with it.  I was.... just me.  I wanted to learn. I had promised if I was unable to keep up with the class I would not slow them down.  I understood that I was unprepared for such study but wanted to learn.  I just wanted a chance to learn and was afraid I did not have the years or time left to live to prepare for such a class in the traditional way.

When I did not understand a term...I looked it up.  I had learned how to use the computers for that and the library.  When I needed to know more about something pertaining to what they were teaching.... I looked it up.  I was reaching out.

I went through Journey Home, one line at a time and worked to make it the best story I could make it.  I love that book.  I am proud of that book.  I have read some books that I really liked but half way through it, you knew who did it.  You could see the ending coming but it was still a good book.  I wanted a book that carried the reader right there so they could see the scenery, know the people, and feel how they felt.  I wanted a book that carried the reader so they felt how it is to look out a window in the dark and not know who or what was looking in.  When you know in your heart there is someone, somewhere, stalking and out there but have no idea who or why, but deep down inside know your life could depend on finding a way to survive it.  I did not want to tell the story but have the reader feel the story.

My covers for Journey Home, Life Goes On and all of the others are my own art projects and paintings.  I want every book I write to be special from cover to cover.  I am still learning.  I am still trying to be able to make them special.

I am beginning to get tired so I am going to shorten this up.  There are so many things, thoughts and special things that I want to share but I will have to do it a little at a time.  I called this Reaching  Out and that is what I am trying to do.  I am trying to reach out.  I found a new site that help authors with their books.  It sounds fantastic.  They help us to reach out.  When I see one of my books on a site it warms my heart but it does more than that....it lets me know I am not alone.   I can reach out out beyond these walls and the things that hold me back.  I can reach out to a whole world....

My books will soon be included in those here on this site and I will share the news.  Until now.... if you write books... Tell them Linda sent you and have fun.  It is a place you can show what you have and who you are.  It is a place where the readers can find some very special books.....

I have so many other things on my mind and that I want to share but it will have to wait.  I do still really get tired.  It is not just tired like when I was healthy and young but very tired and the rest will wait for another day....

I want to thank you each and everyone who shares this link or reads my words.  I want to thank you for helping me to reach out and not be alone.  I want to thank you.

Irresistibly Sweet Blog Award: ME?

When I received notice that a friend and fellow blogger had nominated me for the Irresistibly Sweet Blog Award I was thrilled to be thought of and then wondered what I had written that was irresistibly sweet.  In some ways sharing special things dear to us is something very sweet and as I have found the blog All Dressed Up by Joan Lane… one that is so interesting you never want to miss as she shares so many things in her unique and talented way.  I feel honored and begin to fulfill my part by sharing 7 things about myself.  I hope you enjoy not only the things that I share but those shared by Joan at     http://jplanewrites.blogspot.com/p/irresistibly-sweet-blog-award.html?spref=fb

I am so proud and honored to have been nominated

I am supposed to write some little known things about myself….I only have two problems with that.

  1. I just completed a book called “I Will Not Give Up…Not Today…Life Is A Journey”  That may not sound like a problem or little known fact since I have been trying to get the word out and proud to be able to share it with any and everyone.  The problem with that is that I tried my best to share things from my life in accurate and intensely real detail.  I did not tell every thing about my whole life but did discuss some things that were difficult to even put into words.  I wrote a book to tell all about me so… what could I think of to tell now?

  1. I do not want to be boring.  I think there are many things about me and my life that are so boring I could never find words to tell.  I have been thinking back…way back…back into time when???  We will have to see what all I can come up with.

1.
I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s.  I would love to tell you how I jumped in and experienced all of the changing and wild times that those years were famous for…but….that would be a lie.

When I was young I experienced many health issues and some were intense.  For a time I had to be admitted to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., and was there for some time.  I was not physically disabled, so often would get bored as children do and frustrated with all of the tests and needles and looked for other entertainment.  They had two programs that I especially liked.  Recreational and Occupational Therapy were the high points of my days.  Even as a young child I had always loved to do art related things.  I also wrote.

With my enthusiasm I could recruit other children in the group to participate and see what all we could make.  When you take the time to look around in life, you can see so much.  I had my own problems but there were those who had such illness, injury, and so many things including cancer that my heart went out to them one and all.  They faced so much, yet showed so much courage.  You wanted to reach out and make it better but all you could do is try to make them smile for the moment….especially if you too were only a child.

At that time I thought I was so grown up but now 11 or 12 seems like a baby.  As I sit here now and think back, it renews my feelings for those children all around the world that suffer…suffer from so many things.  At that time I was determined to become a volunteer in that program.  I was told that I was too young.  They have rules for reasons.  Some of the things you see have great emotional consequences.  You have to be able to have such control of your reactions when you see things distressing, so you do not upset the patient.

One young boy had been burning trash.  He did not know that there was an aerosol can in the burn barrel.  When he brought out another bag it exploded embedding burning trash in his face.  I was 12 but still remember.  He was so distraught he would try to hide under his bed when anyone entered his room.  You could not show in voice or any other way a reaction to what you saw.  He was blind and if he did not come out and find a way to learn, do and live……

I do not know how, other than is seems children often will listen to another child before an adult…  but as I sat on the floor beside his bed, little by little he came out.  Visit after visit he began to learn to use his hands and trust others.

They allowed me to work as a volunteer.  I had my little candy striper uniform and was filled with enthusiasm to make a difference…Even if it was for one child… I wanted to bring a smile, a moment of relief from all they went through or just let them know someone cared.  I worked in the recreational/ occupational therapy area.  I loved it and could take almost anything you might throw away and make something else out of it.  The plastic caps from baby bottles they throw out became Christmas ornaments and a dozen other things with other everyday things.

2.
I will start the second thing even though it continues from above.  I loved to write poetry.  I did not keep a journal but many of the poems I wrote were a reflection of things in my life or thoughts, feelings or things that inspired me.  It was almost my own little code or record of this and that in life.

One of the poems I wrote when I was about 12 or 13 I will share.

Blue Eyes

A bright little girl with eyes of blue,
Cheerful and happy with a spirit so true,
Was a joy to visit and a sight to see,
A warm friendly feeling to around her be.

The hospital bed was so cold and clean.
She radiated warmth to the dreary scene.
Not knowing her illness or the burden she bore,
Never guessing the anguish or pain yet in store.

My hospital work was a pleasure to me
New at the job, there was much yet to see.
Caring for many, there was so much they did need,
Just to lighten their spirits could be a difficult deed.

But the little girl with the bright blue eyes,
Was bright and happy and never did cry.
Surely this child must not be too ill,
Such a light hearted smile and indomitable will.

The days passed by and the weeks did too.
Her cheeks grew thin, but her eyes still blue.
She still smiled and laughed, and was ever so gay,
I asked what she’d be when she grew up some day?

The smile of a child, but one filled with peace,
Came to a face that time would not crease.
She seemed oh, so happy as she told me that day,
It wouldn’t be long before Jesus took her away.

I could hardly believe what had just been said.
She lay there so small in that big hospital bed.
A look of concern came across her small face,
To me she was special, a true spirit of grace.
But that she was to many, ask any who knew,
The golden curled girl with eyes of bright blue.

Two nurses came in then to visit the child
My anguish must have shown, for my heart beat was wild.
It just wasn’t fair that this child must die.
I stepped out and asked the nurse, “please tell me why?”

“The why I can’t answer.  The what I am sure.
Advanced forms of cancer, as of yet there’s no cure.”
Her time was most over.  Her gold curls grew thin.
Her treatments were strong, but the cancer would win.

As her body did dwindle, her spirit stayed high.
I could not understand, so I asked the child why?
Your sickness grows worse, and so much you endure,
And I’m sure that you know they don’t have a cure.

Her smile was so warm, though her skin felt quite cold,
Her answer was cheerful and honest and bold.
“How could I be sad when I know what is to come?
I don’t have to wait long, not years as do some.

I’m leaving a life that’s nice enough here,
To go live with God and have nothing to fear.
It’s lucky I am to know Jesus, you see.
I’m ready for him when he’s ready for me.”

It was with such joy she faced what was ahead,
I knew when my time comes I have nothing to dread.
The sweet little girl we had all grown to love,
Was at home now with Jesus, up in heaven above.

They say that she died with a smile as she passed,
From the pain of this life to a new life at last.
What she left to us, was both precious and dear,
Knowing that God also lives with us here.

The little girl is gone from us left here below,
To a life filled with glory, because her Savior she did know.

Pretty Little Blue Eyes I’ll never forget.
The lesson you’ve taught still lives with me yet.

God loves you Child.

By,
Linda J. Nance

As I share this poem it brings back the sights and memories from that time.  I did not exaggerate the strength and convictions of this child.  She was so selfless.  She had only one request.  The one thing she said she wanted was a wig so that when she did leave, her momma would not cry.  She thought about others even to the funeral she knew was soon to come.

I had to leave the room.  I knew it was not allowed to show emotion but there was not way to hold the tears back.  I was not alone.  Everyone in the room glanced from one to the other with tears glistening in their eyes.  A collection was swiftly made and a wig that looked like her hair before her treatments was acquired days before it would be needed.

We may hope to live our lives in a way that does something for good or touches others.  She lived such a short time but her spirit and heart lives on in all who knew her and I hope to pass it on….

That brings to mind the Make A Wish Foundation.  If I had plenty of money what a wonderful thing it would be to be able to make wishes come true for children like these?  As it is, I think every dollar or penny counts.  There is no gesture too small if it is from the heart.

I have wandered from the point that I wrote poetry.  When I wrote I wanted it to have meaning and heart or in some way be sharing part of me.  I think one day I will write a poetry book and share the thoughts or times that went with each one.

3.
A different outlook.  I went on to do volunteer work in a city hospital.  That may not sound unusual but I was allowed to work in the ER.  At that time, it was not done … especially at such a young age.  I was 14 and 15.  I understand now why there are such regulations.  You see too much.  I was so sure that I could handle it.  I thought I was all grown up.  There was an exception made and there I was.  The staff was fantastic.  I learned so much.  They did keep an eye on me and of course I was never allowed to do any direct care with patients.  I set up and cleaned in the rooms, but also visited and helped to keep relatives calm of those who were being treated.  I stayed with patients who could benefit for one reason or another to have someone there.  I could get a frightened child to smile and that may not seem like much but when they are afraid it means a lot to be able to treat them and ease their fears.  I did my best…but...

I saw many things.  I saw things that would make you laugh.  I saw things you could not believe were true.  I saw things that would make me take a break to go to the bathroom and…cry.  A few things I will not go into but …. I understand now why they are careful about whom they allowed to work in those situations and why they were so diligent in making sure I was alright or not overwhelmed.

I loved to learn.  I was learning a lot.  When you stand beside a mother or father and hold their hand knowing that there is nothing more that can be done…you hold their hand and they are dieing…  or visit after visit you grow to love a little girl like the one in the poem to stand silently by her bedside in the last days knowing that is ‘good bye’… or a boy who has lost his sight and face learning to face the world…

When you see abuse, violence, the darker side of human actions and the results in a city ER….

It was difficult as a child to relate to other children of my age.  I would hear things like  “I am just going to die.  Did you see ‘Johnny or Steve or who ever’ talking to her.  I want to die or kill them both”  or “Oh, my God…I have a zit right on my nose.  I can’t stand it.  This is so unfair.”  So many things that were such big issues to those around me seemed so sadly inconsequential.  I said nothing.  That is just it.  I said nothing.  I could not join in as I listened and felt so strongly that they did not understand what pain there really was by so many in life.

4.
School Days……Our high school was so over crowed we had to attend in shifts.  The school was filled with the first shift and then they went home and the next shift was sent in.  So many in my class… I never got to know.  I could blend in the background.  I had enough credits I had wished that I would have gone to summer school and got one more.  I would have graduated at 16.  My senior year I was allowed to go to the local college and take classes to be certified as a Nursing Assistant.  That is a nurse’s aide.  I had to wait to go to work until I was 16 to have a driver’s license.

My senior year I had one class and the teacher was so sweet.  She understood that I was tired.  I got a job at the same hospital where I had done the ER work.  The class was not even close to the level of study or training I had already completed at the college, so if I held an A/B average, did not snore or fall out of my seat she let me sleep when that occasionally happened.  I was working the night shift in the hospital in the area where most of the terminal patients were and occasionally pulled to the comprehensive medical unit.  (many called it the psych ward)

I was active in the church, working in the hospitals and missed the usual experiences that create so many memories we can look back on and fondly say…I remember back then, when I was young…..  We did this and that……

In my own way I felt a desire to do more.  I was never pushed into any of the things I was involved in.  Many tried to discourage me and asked that I wait until I was older but I was never one to wait.  When I had seen children die…we never know what tomorrow will bring.  I had seen that first hand at a young age as a patient and seen it repeated in many ways in life.  I wanted to live life and make a difference.

I could talk to doctors and nurses and even understand the things discussed with medical issues.  I could talk to patients and their families or at church but did not feel close to very many of my peers.  I often felt apart from others in school.

4.
Take a step back…..  When I worked every day with terminal patients I could not separate feelings from the services and care provided.  There were so many that as they aged became so alone in life.  Others were busy and might come as time permits, but their lives had demands and the patients often were so alone…they knew they would die and they lay in the bed feeling alone.  I could not smile and forget the feeling from them.  I often visited.  I would even come in early and spend time with this one or that one that really needed just a moment with a friendly face that was not just there doing a job.  They needed to know someone cared.  I did care.  Then when they died… I was low in seniority so I got the jobs others did not want.  I got to bag and tag my friend.  Too many times I did what I had to do with tears running down my face.  I prepared them to go to what ever funeral home would arrive to get them, or for the family to come for their last visit.

There were other things too that broke my heart or deeply distressed me.  It was too much.  I gave notice and got a job at an insurance company.  My knowledge of terms and procedures made it perfect for me to be able to screen claims and even teach others.  I was finally 18 and thought I was so grown up.

5.

Years pass by…..
I will skip ahead as I wander through memories.  There came a time in life I had been married and divorced.  I had two children and was trying to survive in life and find my way.  I have always tried, but at times felt so lost.  I had lived to do what was needed.  I have tried to explain that in many ways but often felt as if there was no real me…only what was needed.  Who and what was I?

I understand the definition of depression and am sure there are many times I qualify but that is not what I am or will allow my self to be.  Depression is a dangerous thing to body, mind and soul.  What I wanted was to live life.

By that time all I concentrated on was surviving.  I wanted to provide, protect, and build a life for my children and myself.  I had given up on finding that so called soul mate or someone special in life.

That is when I met Albert.  He was and is so different from me.  He would be more what I would call a free spirit.  He can be one of the best hearted people you could ever meet.  We all have more than one side to our true selves but this man made me feel special.  The children loved him and….he made me smile.  There are times he still makes me smile.

He had long hair, did construction and opened a new world for me.  We laughed and smiled and I felt alive.  I had never got to go dancing.  I did not know how to dance.  I did not know how to just go have fun.

We got tickets for a concert in Memphis, Tn.  I had never been to a concert either.  You would think someone in their 30’s would have done all of those things, especially in their youth but to me it was all new and…exciting.  I loved the concert.  When we went outside my back was bothering me.  I have and did have trouble with that so we sat by the retaining wall next to the street.  A horse drawn carriage stopped and Albert talked to the woman driving it.  The next thing you know we were off on a carriage ride.  You normally went a certain area around the Pyramid but she took us all the way through town and traffic to
Beal Street
.  Part way through, she stopped allowing the horse to rest and turned asking to take our picture.  She gave me a copy of it saying she thought we had magic.  She told how she sees so many people and everyone is having a good time but there was just something special about and between the two of us…Magic.

It was magic.  It was a time to remember.  We danced, we smiled, we laughed and we made memories.   We still have magic.  His son, my son and daughter and the four grandchildren are magic.  They warm your heart and make you spirit soar at the sight of them.

A New Day

Through the years I have collected many things that I have written.  I hoped one day to see some of it published, but as I have shared in other blogs… time seemed to be of the essence to make that dream real.

Now as I grow older I do not feel that things are coming to an end in my life…I feel as if I am on an adventure of a journey.  I have only just begun.  I have so many things and ideas I want to bring to life.  There are stories and more yet to become books.  There are places to go and people to meet.  There are adventures I never thought of that I am sure waiting for their day to come… and I will go and do and be there.  My newest E-Book tells that and so much more.  I Will Not Give Up… Not Today… Life Is A Journey and that it is.  That is only the first book of it’s kind too.  I would tell you what there is to come but who knows what all will be….it is an adventure.

  1. My Books
This part is an invitation as well as a fact about me.  I invite you all to share my journey.  I have written not one type of book but each book a special creation.

‘Life Goes On’ Shares the drama of a family in crisis.  They do not always make the right choices in life but life tends to be that way.  Hopefully we learn as we live and….life does go on.  It is not a how to live your life but sharing the story of a family with the tests and trials they endure.  So many are suffering such hard times it helps to know we are not alone but we can survive.  We can not only survive but find the strength to go on in life.  I chose that to be the first novel published.

‘Journey Home’ is a novel that I hope keeps you guessing to the very end.  I have heard from so many that they never saw it coming and loved it.  This is a story I think will be hard to forget.  When it gets dark outside….do you have your doors locked and curtains closed…if not….what might lurk outside looking in….and why?  If she does not find answers will she even survive?

‘The Pumpkin Field’ is a children’s book that was and is one close to my heart.  I have told about it too so many times that would not be new to share.  What I will say is that this little tale has delighted so many children through so many years and still has it’s own magic.  I say magic because it seems to stimulate conversations with young and old.  I wanted to write a tale that lived in the heart of the reader.  What can you see no matter your age in the words and dual meanings?  It has helped some young to see that even in the dark of night there is beauty and light in the heavens above.  Life can seem that way at times.  No matter how dark it is we have to look and find the light and our own star to guide us.

My fourth book is ‘I Will Not Give Up…Not Today…Life Is A Journey’.  I have written an autobiographical account sharing not only parts of my life but thoughts, feelings, hopes, fears, and more.  In sharing things that I have written and an insight into my dreams and goals for the future, I offer a glimpse inside heart and soul.  I hope to have been able to share many things including the feeling that we can not give up.  That is exactly what I am doing…not giving up.  I am reaching out beyond the pages and hope to make a difference.

The book has religious aspects because the beliefs I have and hold are dear to me and very much a part of who and what I am.  There have been moments and events in my life that reinforce beliefs I have always had.  I have tried to find words to convey so many things.

Some instances shared were very traumatic times.  If I share the truth of the past, it might help others to see and feel that no matter how difficult things may be, we can go on in life and find hope for our future.  I hope it touches the hearts of anyone who has or is having problems that feel insurmountable and offers them hope.  I hope it reaches the heart of those who have no idea what such devastating illness or injury might be and feel like, allowing them a deeper compassion or understanding of others along the way in their lives.

I did not dwell on the negative attitudes in life, but just as I said in the book, we have to be wary of what we look for…they are there too… from the youngest children at play on the playground teasing a playmate to the workplace or everyday life and at times in our own relationships.  It is easy to see prejudge by appearances or differences or other things.  We are naturally attracted to beauty and the enthusiasm.  Can we look past appearances to see what lies deeper in the heart of another?

I have been able to turn all but the children’s book into E-Books and will figure that out soon too.  I am learning so many new things.  I even did a youtube thing of me reading the story to children.

I do my own art work.  I did paintings and wrote blogs and about it on the fan page as they progressed.  I have shared many things.  Even that I still play with playdoh.  I make flowers.  I love to make playdoh flowers even though I can do art in other mediums because it keeps the inner child alive and well and exercises my hands.  I have even written about that too.  I will try to add pictures here and links to many things.

I will continue to work with the writer’s group I started locally and on line for people to help each other.  It is amazing to be able to share with one another and see each one as their own special projects come to life.  I have learned so much and thank all who take the time helping me and we helping each other.

I will also add the thought and hope that you have bright days ahead and never give up.  I wish you each happiness, hope and love in your lives.  May your path in life lead you to a place a peace and joy.

For those I have nominated, the rules, as I understand them are:

1. Thank and link to the person who nominated you.
2. Share 7 random facts about yourself.
3. Pass the Award on to some of your own deserving blog friends.
4. Contact those friends and let them know.

I thank Joan once again and am happy to pass this on to others who do so much with the things that they write each in their own way.  Helping with words and sharing with others I invited you to stop and enjoy the different things they present.
